Celebrating 50 Years of International Biomedical

This year, we proudly celebrate the 50th anniversary of International Biomedical, a milestone rooted in a legacy of innovation, dedication, and love. The journey began with A.J. “Joe” Segars and his wife, Martha “Pearl” Segars, whose shared entrepreneurial spirit and commitment to excellence laid the foundation for what IB has become today.

Joe’s vision started in 1959 with Medical Specialty Co., a business run from their home that sold respirators and oxygen tanks. Over the years, the Segars family’s hard work and determination saw the business flourish, eventually evolving into International Biomedical in 1973. From its roots in Fort Worth to its expansion to Austin in 1990, IB grew into the largest manufacturer of infant transport incubators in the United States, a vital contribution to neonatal care worldwide.

Behind the success of the company was a partnership of equals. Pearl, while raising their growing family, supported Joe’s endeavors, embodying the values of teamwork and perseverance. Together, they built not only a thriving business but a legacy of care and innovation that has positively impacted countless lives.

Joe continued to lead International Biomedical well into his late 80s, semi-retiring in 2017. His unwavering dedication to advancing neonatal care remains a cornerstone of IB’s mission today.

As we honor this milestone, we also celebrate the Segars family’s incredible legacy, including their nine children, 27 grandchildren, and 29 great-grandchildren. Their journey of love, resilience, and commitment to making the world a better place inspires everything we do at International Biomedical.

Here’s to 50 years of innovation and excellence—and to the bright future ahead. Thank you to all who have been part of this journey.
